carry the minimum amount of material on any outing that will help you in emergencies.
Carrying too much is almost as bad as not carrying enough. Spend the time
to reduce the weight and bulk as small as possible. Ideally, the ten essentials
should be something you always carry in your fanny pack, and extras go in the daypack (although extra clothing is so bulky
that it is usually carried in the day pack). Fanny Pack: Buy a good fanny pack that fits and is large enough to carry the ten essentials but
no larger than can be carried comfortably. If you have a choice and can afford
it, buy a fanny pack that has a water bottle holder. Day Pack: The daypack is a good companion on day hikes.
Carry food, a camera, handbooks, extra clothing in the daypack. A leather
